Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits less than a year into their marriage, 10 years after meeting on a movie set. USA TODAY

Miley Cyrus is calling for privacy and respect as she moves on with her life after her August break-up with Liam Hemsworth.

The "Wrecking Ball" singer wrote lengthy Twitter missives Friday directed at the critics who won't let her move on after videos showed her kissing singer Cody Simpson at a Los Angeles health food store.

"Can't I just have a kiss and acai bowl?" wrote Cyrus.

The Simpson sighting came after her whirlwind romance with Kaitlynn Carter ended and Cyrus felt the need to address her new "dating" life.

"I know the public feels invested in my past relationship, because they saw it thru from the beginning," Cyrus wrote. "But I'm grown now and make choices as an adult."

Cyrus was particularly vexed at the societal double-standard of men dating versus women dating.

"Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut-shamed," wrote Cyrus. "They move on from one beautiful young woman to the next MOST times without consequence. They are usually referred to as 'legends,' 'heartthrobs,' 'G,' 'Ladies Man' etc."

"Where women are called sluts," she added. "I am just trying to thrive in a man's world. If we can't beat 'em, join 'em!"

Cyrus said she would continue to date in public, because dating from home is "not fun."

"I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but 'Netflix and chill.' "

There was a call for privacy and understanding.

"This 'dating' thing is new to me," wrote Cyrus. "Get used to me dating, this is where I am at!"

Cyrus had fun on her Instagram Story Friday with the Simpson flap, sharing a steamy, black-and-white shirtless photo of the Australian singer, with check marks near his attributes: "22, Australian (my type), Abs." She added, "Hot Girl Fall."

The singer shared the video of her and Simpson kissing writing, "Can a girl not get a (expletive) açai bowl and a morning make out session in peace?!?!"
